Prof. Israel Funso. Adeniyi FZSN


Professor Israel Funso Adeniyi hails from Oka Akoko, Akoko Southwest LGA of Ondo State, Nigeria. He holds ,a B.Sc.(Zoology), Ife,1971; Ph. D. (Zoology: Hydrobiology), Ife,1978, Cert. in Analytical Instruments (Zug, Switzerland), 1984, and IAEA Fellowship (University of Washington, Seattle ) 1982. He was in the service of University of Ife/Obafemi Awolowo University ( OAU ) for almost five decades (1971-2019 ). In addition to his specialized field of Limnology and Radiation Ecology, he taught a wide range of courses in the Departments of Zoology,Geology, Natural History Museum, and the Institute of Ecology at OAU.He supervised over 200 final-year undergraduate research projects,50 M.Sc. /M.Phil.,and 20 Ph.D degree
students. He served in various academic positions at OAU and about ten other Nigerian universities as visiting or external examiner. He has been involved in most of the major environmental projects so far undertaken in Nigeria, including the Kainji Lake Research Project (1968-1978 ),River blindness Control of FCT (1777-1983), National Onchocerciasis Control Program, and many EIA, Environmental Audits and baseline studies.
Prof. Adeniyi belongs to many professional organizations within and outside Nigeria. He served for almost two and a half decades (1986-2010 ) as the Ife Branch Secretary of Nigerian Field Society (NFS) and as the President and Chairman of Council of the society since 2010.. Prof..Adeniyi is happily married to Mrs Aderonke Olutoyin Lakisokun Adeniyi and they are blessed with six children and grandchildren.
