Prof John Rowland Olufemi Ojo, artist, art historian and anthropologist is a retired Professor from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife where he taugh for almost 4 decades. J.R.O. as warmly called was a former Branch chairman of the Ile-Ife Branch of the Society (1977-1980) and a Trustee member of the Society. He not only interested in the arts and culture, but also horticulture with many plant species at his former home on Road 20 of the university campus in Ile-Ife and his new home. Baba Ojo attracted many of his former students and colleagues in the art department and architecture to the NFS.
A widely published scholar, Ojo published seminal articles and chapters in books on Yoruba egungun and other related subjects from 1967 until his retirement in 2003. As an artist, Prof Ojo’s landscape paintings and drawings pay attention to details. He was one of the foremost Nigerian watercolourist devoted to the study of plants, landscape and still life subjects.
