Stephen Fọlárànmí, PhD is an artist and art historian in the Fine Arts Department at Rhodes University, South Africa. He received his BA, MFA (Fine Arts specializing in Painting), MPhil and PhD in Art History from Obafemi Awolowo University Ilé-Ifẹ̀ Nigeria. From 2002-2021, Stephen taught Painting, Drawing and Art History at Obafemi Awolowo University Ilé-Ifẹ̀. His research interests include Yorùbá Art Studies, African mural Art, and Architecture. He has published works in journals, conference proceedings and chapters in six books. As an artist, Stephen has participated in several group and joint exhibitions, with a solo show to his credit. His paintings use several traditional and local materials, and his subject is varied. He particularly adapts imageries and concepts from his native Yorùbá origin. Stephen received the first Höffmann-Dozentur für Interkulturelle Kompetenz at the University of Vechta, Germany, in the 2008/2009 session. A recipient of the2019 Getty CAA International Travel Grant, CAA 2020 International Travel Grant, and 2021 ACASA Travel Grant. He is a member of CAA, ACASA, ASA, SNA and the National Secretary of the Nigerian Field Society.
